ANTICIPATED PROJECT COMPLETION DATE: JUNE 2018
MAIN ST. / DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION PROJECT STATUS (UPDATED 12/29/2017)
The contractor has completed 2017 construction operations. work and next steps include continuing the placement of granite curb for the new sidewalks and installing the new cement concrete sidewalks and driveway aprons. It is anticipated that the sidewalk work will be completed by Thanksgiving assuming the private utilities make the necessary progress on their respective relocations (i.e., Charter, Verizon and National Grid Electric).
NEW SIGNALS: The new traffic signals are operational. Unfortunately the new Pleasant Street intersection was not opened until late in the season and snow fell before pavement marking could be installed. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion learning the new configuration of the Main St and Pleasant Street intersection. Please refer to the plan below to familiarize yourself where the new stop lines and turn lanes locations should be.
STREET LIGHTING: The street lighting subcontractor will be working to get the remaining downtown street lighting operational as soon as possible, hopefully by January 2018. Once those streets lights are on all work on this project for this season with the possible exception of pavement markings (weather permitting) will cease until April-May 2018.
OVERHEAD UTILITY WORK BY OTHERS: Private utilities, Charter, Verizon and National Grid Electric, relocation work is still ongoing and is of the highest priority to get the realigned Pleasant St intersection open and operational. The utility relocation also have to be finished to complete all of the sidewalk work.
WATER UTILITY WORK: Completed with the exception of one hydrant to be adjusted on Main Street.
SEWER UTILITY WORK: Completed.
UNDERGROUND UTILITY WORK BY OTHERS: Base course is down. Moratorium is in place. No excavation allowed without emergency, special permit and full mortuum fees (base moratorium fee is $5,000.00 + permit fees + full road restoration, etc.)
ACCESS TO ALL BUSINESSES SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES SO THEY CAN REMAIN OPEN. During construction daily road closures will be in effect for various segments of the road where crews are working. Customers, residents and other users should plan alternate routes around the construction zone whenever possible. The road closure area will continue to shift within the project work limits as construction progresses.
