Attention Spencer Residents
NOTICE: Do NOT Put Leaves on Town Roads, Sidewalks or Road Layouts.
As the leaf raking season is upon us, this is a reminder to all residents that leaves can NOT be raked into the streets, sidewalks or gutters. Leaf piles in the sidewalks, streets and gutters create drainage and maintenance issues and can also create a safety hazard.
Article 6 Section 8 of the Town of Spencer Bylaws states that “No person shall deposit on a public way or public place any household, commercial or environmental waste (i. e. leaves, brush, dirt, gravel).”
Violations of this section shall be fined $50.00 – 1st offense, $100.00 - 2nd offense, $150.00 – 3rd offense, and $200.00 – 4th and subsequent offenses. Each week during which the violation continues to occur shall be deemed a separate offense.
For residents with transfer station stickers, the Transfer Station provides a compost area where leaves, grass clippings and the like can be dropped off.
Do NOT place your leaf piles in the sidewalks, streets and gutters. You may be ticketed, fined and/or charged for their removal. The Highway Department appreciates your cooperation in this matter. Feel free to call 508-885-7525 if any questions.
