Ongoing and Planned Construction Activities
Markings and line painting have been completed. The bus shelter is expected to be delivered in January and installed in front of the newly built wall.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS
On-street parking is prohibited from 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM for construction activities. Work zones will be closed to through-traffic during those hours as well.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Town of Spencer is excited to announce the continutation of roadway and sidewalk improvements on a segment of Main Street (from Water Street to High Street).
THE MAIN STREET PROJECT WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
Sidewalks, Ramps, and Curbing
The existing sidewalks on Main Street are in poor condition and will be replaced with new concrete sidewalks. Existing wheelchair ramps do not meet current accessibility standards and also need to be replaced. At other locations, new wheelchair ramps need to be installed. New granite curbing will be installed along the length of sidewalk, as well.
Road Surface
The existing road surface of Main Street is in poor condition with extensive cracking and potholes appearing throughout the area. The entire width and length of the road will be reconstructed following the completion of drainage and sewer work.
Drainage System
The existing drainage system will be repaired and updated to handle significant amounts of stormwater, as misplaced water causes the deterioration of the roadway. These improvements will directly increase the lifespan of the road surfaces.
Sewer System
The updates to the sewer system will include repairs and possible replacements to structures that are performing poorly.
Pedestrian Bus Shelter
In addition to roadway and sidewalk improvements, a pedestrian bus shelter will be installed in front of the West Main Street School located at 45 Main Street.
