Trustees’ Meeting

November 16, 2020

In Attendance:

Cheryl A. Donahue, Director

Katie Smith, Children’s Librarian

Mary Anne Slack, Chair

Lynn Dobson, Trustee

 

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM.

Mary Anne made a motion to accept the minutes from the October 19, 2020 meeting. Lynn seconded the motion.

 

Staff members had requested to speak with the Trustees to present their views on opening the library. The first 20 minutes were used to allow the staff to present their views.

 

Children’s Report:

Community Connections provided another month of kits and they are already gone.

Katie is sending out Story Time programming through Constant Contact.

So far there are no takers for Amy’s Wildfire  book club. She plans to try a wordless graphic novel next month.

Mug recipes and a mug are being offered by the Children’s room. There is optional Zoom programming participation. There is also a Light Kit Challenge for this same age group which was Amy’s idea.

The cultural council has agreed to let Katie reschedule last year’s programs to summer 2021.

Debbie Kirk has finished repainting the Children’s Department sign.

Katie will order new Apps for the iPad. Jonathan will install a new stand for it. He also will install a wall mount with handing rack for books with CDs and Kits in clear plastic.

 

Director’s Report:

Cheryl attended a Zoom CMLA meeting on Nov. 10, 2020.

Cheryl attended the fall town meeting.

Wendy O’Leary’s “Pause” meditation continues to be well received.

The library is promoting remote programming on FaceBook.

Denise will lead a Zoom book club on Thursday Nov. 19th.

Curbside pickup continues with all staff working in the library.

The automatic door opener installation should be done by reopening date.

After discussion of the library’s gutter project it was decided to begin the project. The study required by the town has been done.

Steve Tyler has returned to Utilities and Facilities until the position has been filled.

Only one boiler is working. Oct. 23, 2020 MPC, Jon Stehr, Bill Krukowski, HTP manufacturer representative and Travelers insurance adjuster, Andrew Sweeney met to discuss the 2 boiler failure.

Conclusion: Water system is causing the problem and must be addressed immediately. Test the water and clean the system by flushing out the pipes.

Piping must be redone and filtering system added to neutralize iron to protect the boilers.

Town Manager, Tom Gregory, is pursuing replacement of boiler via insurance claim.

Reopening of the library to the public was discussed. With the rise in   Covid-19 cases in town, it was decided to continue operation of the library as it is. Trustees will review the possibility of opening at every monthly meeting.
