Dog Licenses

Under Massachusetts State Law all dogs must be licensed when they reach 6 months of age and every year thereafter.

Licensing renewals are done from March 15th through June 30th of each year. Bills are mailed in mid-March to all dog owners on record. The bill provides the rabies expiration date and the gender we have on record for each dog. If the rabies vaccination date has expired, we require proof from the vet that a new rabies shot has been obtained and the expiration date of that shot. Also, if your dog has been spayed or neutered, you must provide proof from your vet.

The cost to license is $15.00 for a male or female and $10.00 for a spayed or neutered dog.

Fines: Licensing late can be expensive!

  • Late Fee=$15
  • Demand Fee=$25
  • Ticket=$50

Licenses may be paid for in person at the Town Clerk's Office, Town Hall payment drop box, online using the Town's website, provided that rabies vaccinations are up to date; or by mailing a check to the Town Clerk, 157 Main St., Spencer, MA.

Kennels:  "Any person who owns or keeps more than three dogs, three months old or over, on a single premise, irrespective of the purpose for which they are maintained, without a valid kennel license issued by the Town Clerk, shall be subject to a $100 fine.” Please fill out the Kennel Application attached bellow and return it to the Clerks Office.
