Trustees’ Report

September 5, 2023

In Attendance:
Cheryl Donahue, Director

Meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m.

Marie made a motion to approve minutes from last meeting.  Alyson seconded. Motion approved.

Children’s Room:

*Community Connections held many programs with us in August.  They have invited us to several programs at Powder Mill Park this year as well as the Bus Safety Program in East Brookfield.

*Drop-in activities continue in children’s dept.

*Deb Hutchins led a Music and Movement program at Powder Mill Park.

*We Read It newsletter goes out monthly.

*We postponed Pumpernickel Puppets and Bryson Lang until October due to rain.

*Katie has held Teen Advisory Group monthly.

*The Spencer Fire Dept. is providing 2 fire safely programs for the kids in October.

* Out of the Ark will animal program was held at the Spencer Fish & Game and a VR program by One Up games at the library.

*Amy led Crafty Wednesdays this summer (included a wind chime craft, a flower arrangement craft a watermelon craft).

*Sewing program and Dungeons and Dragons will start up again this fall.

*Diane Johnson is running 2 crafting programs for grades 5-12 in October.

*Katie will be running a four-week learning to knit program starting in late September for teens and adults.

*Amy will be starting Imagination Station in October and Graphic Novel book club in September.

*Grab and Go kits will start again in October.

*Story Walk was held at The Spencer Fair.  50 copies of “Earth Book” were given away.

Director’s Report:

 *Pause meditation program is held Tuesdays with Wendy O’Leary.

*”Coffee Chat” held Monday mornings with 12-20 attendants each week.  Mary Baker Wood helped facilitate the conversation at several meetings.

*Wednesday morning weekly neighborhood strolls to Mechanic Street and a local alpaca farm took place on August 2nd and 9th.

*Musical performance by Hungry Town was held at the town hall on August 14th.

*Cheryl attended Zoom programs about end of life on August 22nd and 23rd.

*Dipody Doo Child Learning & Development group of East Brookfield visited the library on August 23rd.

*Denise delivered items to homes of patrons unable to visit the library and visited the senior center on August 24th.

*Cheryl attended library directors meeting in Southbridge on August 28th.

*Cheryl represented the library at Wire Village open house on August 28th.

*Story Walk (funded by Cultural Council), “Gregory the Terrible Eater”, set up at Thibault’s Country Store.  Free books were distributed to families visiting the store.

*Cheryl completed financial state report and submitted on August 14th.

*Vandalism in bathroom A repaired and cleaned (3rd week of August).

*Kai Panori will start as our new page on September 6th.  She was trained on August 21st.  Gabby Saint Vil worked her last shift on August 29th.
