May 17, 2022

In Attendance:
Cheryl Donahue, Director
Katheryn Smith, Children’s Room
Mary Anne Slack, Chair
Alyson Russo, Trustee
Bill Cundiff, Town of Spencer Supt. Of Utilities

Meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.
Alyson motioned to approve the minutes from March meeting. Mary Anne
seconded. Motion approved.

Children’s Room:
*Community Connections continues to provided monthly kits for birth-PK
*Community Connections held Read, Build, Play on April 19 th and May 5 th and will
host another program on May 26 th .
*We continue to give away our own kits for toddler/PK, K-5 and teens.
*Drop-in activities are available in the Children’s Dept.
*MaryAnne Slack hosted a musical program on April 21 st .
*We Read It newsletter goes out monthly.
*We created 30 How to Catch a Monster kits for K-5 and 7 Journaling and
doorhanger kits for teens.

*May 2 nd picture book author Alec Cavlin (“How to Bake a Universe”) held a
program with a craft and Q&A.
*Hanover Theater gave us 2 tickets to Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood as a prize for a
coloring contest.
*Katie purchased non-fiction titles from Garrett Book vendor.
*Katie renewed the agreement with Junior Library Guild to purchase books from
several categories this coming fiscal year.
*Katie attended Department Head meeting on May 10 th in the director’s absence.
*Katie attended virtual programs: Small Library Chat, CMLA Youth Service
Community Chat and finished the Youth Mental Health First Aid program
(certified for 3 years).
*Summer reading kickoff will be at the Spencer Highway Garage on July 12 th .
*Community Connections will split the cost of several of the summer reading
programs. Most will occur at Powder Mill Park.
*Katie contacted school reading specialists to find out summer reading
requirements.

Director’s Report:
*Meditation program with Wendy O’Leary is held remotely on Tuesday mornings.
* Denise visited Howe Village for outreach on April 20 th
*Cheryl met with Sheryl Moore from Camp Marshall to arrange summer program.
*Cheryl attended CW MARS director’s Zoom meeting on April 25 th .
*Certificate of inspection was granted on May 3 rd .

Updates to Building Concerns:
*HVAC project is still out for bid.
*Mary Anne will follow up with select board in regards to ARPA funds.
*11 companies came for a site walk-through on May 16 th for the envelope study.
*45 firms took out bids on the envelope study.
*Proposals are due to Bill Cundiff by May 31 st . Trustees will then score proposals.
3 highest scores will get interviewed by trustees. Final recommendation will go to
the select board.
