Alarm Registration

The Town of Spencer has adopted a False Alarm By-Law, the purpose of which is to reduce the number of false alarm dispatch requests.

Alarms regulated by this By-Law shall include those installed within a home or business that produce an audible signal on the exterior or are monitored by an alarm company for the purpose of reporting a burglary, fire, or holdup.

Alarm sites must register with the Spencer Police Department and pay a one-time $25.00 registration fee. A completed application form, along with the registration fee, shall be forwarded by mail to the Spencer Police Department at 9 Dewey Street, Spencer, MA 01562.

The registration process shall commence immediately; however, alarm sites shall not be subject to a fine for a false alarm dispatch until July 1st of 2001.

Any person operating an alarm system without a permit shall be subject to an additional fine of $100.00 for each false alarm dispatch.

An alarm caused by a criminal offense, fire, or solely from a power outage or extreme weather condition shall not be counted as a false alarm.

The use of automatic dialers is prohibited.

The Town shall not serve as an alarm monitoring company.

The tabulation of false alarms shall commence anew each July.
