All water craft vessels, including documented boats and ships, used or capable of being used for transportation on water (includes all equipment, furnishings, mode of power, etc.) shall be assessed an excise tax for the privilege of using the waterways. A tax rate of $10.00 per thousand dollars of value shall be assessed on July 1st annually by the community where the boat is habitually moored, docked, or principally situated for the summer season. In the case of more than one municipality having a share of a harbor, the excise shall be paid the the community that maintains the portion of the harbor in which the boat is moored or docked. Bills are payable within 60 days from the bill date.

If you have sold, traded or junked your boat, contact the Assessors Office for an abatement.

A demand will be issued for all bills unpaid after the due date.  A demand fee of 20.00 plus interest will be added to the unpaid balance.

After 14 days all unpaid bills will be issued to our deputy collector, Jeffrey & Jeffrey Inc. of Ware, MA.
