Marriage Licenses

Both parties must appear in person at the office of the Town Clerk in order to obtain a marriage license. You must complete and sign, under oath, the Intention of Marriage. The fee for filing the Intention of Marriage is $30.00 and includes one certified copy of the marriage certificate. Marriage intentions can be applied for during regular hours no appointment needed.

You must be at least 18 years of age or have a court order, providing for an exception. If you are under the age of 21 you must provide ID.

Massachusetts requires a mandatory three (3) day waiting period from the time the Intention of Marriage is filed to when a marriage license can be issued. That means that a marriage intention filed on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday may not be picked up until Monday of the week following your application. A waiver from this period may be obtained from the local District Court. A Massachusetts marriage license can be used anywhere in Massachusetts it must be used within sixty (60) days from the date you fill out the Intention.

Marriages can be performed by the Town Clerk/Justice of the Peace at the Town Hall by special appointment. Please call Town Clerk Sandra Fritze for more info 508-885-7500x150
